Sustainability at HDO

As a manufacturing company with high energy requirements, sustainability is one of the central elements for our future success. Our goal is to produce high-quality environmentally and health-friendly products while conserving resources.

Our sustainibilty goals

The concept of sustainability for us is based on the three pillars of ecology, economy, and social responsibility. Only by aligning with the environment and our employees we can achieve long-term success. We continuously work towards the progress of various goals and measures in all three areas.

Our key sustainability goals are:

  • Reducing CO2 emissions to achieve climate neutrality (Scope 1, 2, 3)
  • Avoiding energy consumption (electricity, gas, heat)
  • Decreasing water usage
  • Substituting natural gas as an energy source
  • Optimizing raw material recycling towards a circular economy
  • Continuously expanding energy and environmental monitoring
  • Ensuring demand-oriented training across all departments
  • Promoting diversity and openness within the company
  • Responsible supply chains: Involving suppliers

Advantages of zinc die casting

Sustainable, long-lasting, economical

  • Zinc is a naturally occurring raw material that can be recycled indefinitely without compromising quality. In waste processing, it can be easily sorted and reintroduced into the circular economy.
  • Zinc die casting tools have a long service life and can be fully recycled at the end of their lifespan.
  • Very precise die casting reduces the effort required for mechanical processing.
  • Realization of thin-walled parts > low material usage and reduced weight
  • Good tensile and elongation strength, good impact and corrosion resistance > long service life of products
  • Functional integration can eliminate individual components or make additional steps obsolete (e.g. possible by realizing rivet domes or screw domes for self-tapping screws).
  • Zinc is highly machinable.
  • Significantly less sensitive to temperature and more dimensionally stable than plastic parts.
  • Compared to other manufacturing processes, zinc die casting offers a high output per hour, making it more cost-effective and sustainable.
  • Zinc is very easy to coat and thus offers a variety of high-quality decorative applications.
  • Even with lower production volumes, the production of die casting components can be economical and sustainable: If the geometry is milled from the solid blank, high mechanical production capacities and a lot of material are required. By constructively designing product families, many different variants can be produced from a cast blank through mechanical processing.

Advantages of electroplated metal surface finishings

Long-lasting products with a premium feel

Outstanding design and high-quality feel:

  • Robust and highly durable surface
  • Effective protection against corrosion
  • Mechanical resistance -> scratch-, impact-, abrasion-resistant
  • Chemical resistance
  • Moisture resistance
  • Temperature resistance
  • UV resistance and color fastness
  • High adhesion strength on a die cast blank
  • No embrittlement of the surface, ensuring no detachment of components
  • A process suitable for numerous applications and areas

Environmentally friendly and resource-saving:

  • Odorless, no absorption or emission of odors
  • Dirt-repellent surface
  • Easy-to-clean surface with minimal use of cleaning agents
  • Solvent-free coating
  • No diffusion of gases, liquids or other components over the years of use
  • No overspray during coating ensuring no components in the breathing air
  • Efficient and thin-walled: 20 to 50 μm layer thickness in one step
  • Recyclability and reuse of the metals even without a deposit system
